Today, I’m laying out the 5 healthy lifestyle habits of successful women. What does it take to be an overcomer and get out of your own way??
Now that I said the "5 healthy lifestyle habits of successful women", I understand the tendency to look at that and automatically feel stressed, overwhelmed and start comparing yourself to others and feel inadequate. I get it. That is my tendency too! But you have to realize that is self-sabotage and limiting beliefs. Listen with an open mind and determine to get out of your own way!! As Maya Angelou says...when you know better, you do better!

But time went by so fast and you honestly didn't have the time or the energy. You didn't know where to start to take control of your health feels so overwhelming. Okay. Let me level with you this topic. Sometimes when I hear a topic like the one we're discussing today, the five healthy lifestyle habits of successful women. I just, it has like a lot of emotion here. So I just feel like a little jealous or overwhelmed, or I feel like, oh my God, I can never be that disciplined. Like just that statement. The five healthy lifestyle habits of successful women. Okay. It brings up a lot of emotion here. But if I take a moment and, um, and are mindful, I realize this is the self-sabotage the limiting beliefs that I could never do that.
And I'm shooting myself in the foot, frankly. I'm tired of getting in my own way. And I know you are too, so let's do this together. I want you to listen with an open mind, push aside, the limiting beliefs, determine to get out of your own way. So you can move forward. As Maya Angelou always says, once you know better, you do better.
So here we go. The top five lifestyle habits of successful women.
Number one, practice, mindfulness. It's that? Self-reflection okay. Where am I at? Am I sabotaging my own efforts? I often put it like this. Am I shooting myself in the foot? What's standing in my way. What's keeping me from making progress. This requires honesty, honesty with yourself. So I can give a great example here. That's me. I reached a point where I felt like when it came to my health, I'm like, I'm everything right?
Like I'm doing everything right. What's wrong with me? Why do I still continue to feel tired? I'm not sleeping good. Um, I don't feel happy. I'm feeling depressed. I'm feeling anxious and the weight, the weight won't budge, I'm doing everything right. But you know what? When I started to be mindful and honest with myself, I realized I wasn't doing everything right. How is doing some of the things, right? But there were other things that I was ignoring. I was ignoring my emotional health. I was hours turning to other things to numb the pain, my soul wasn't nourished, but I had to be honest with myself and I had to start practicing mindfulness and recognize my obstacles so that I could move forward. And I'm so glad that I did. So as you practice mindfulness, look at all areas of your life. One of those areas is self-talk.
What do you say when you talk to yourself? Isn't that a funny statement, but think about it. What are you saying to yourself? Is it negative? Probably. I talked to women all day. Every day. I'm a women's health coach. I don't meet many women who talk to themselves very nicely. They're saying negative things about themselves. That's what I've done before I say negative things to myself. And guess what? It's counterproductive. It doesn't work negative mind, negative body. So we've got to look at what you're saying to yourself. Here's a wonderful question. You can ask yourself what I say that to my child. That awful thing that I just said to myself, what I say that to my child.
Finally, as we're looking at mindfulness, after you've looked at self-talk look at your mindset, is it negative? Or is it positive? What's your mindset towards healthy living? What's your mindset towards self care? Um, so many times our mindset dictates everything. My mindset towards movement has gotten me in a lot of trouble. My mindset towards exercise. I don't have time for that. I don't, I don't, I don't enjoy running. Okay. You don't have to run then. So look at your mindset. Y'all this is 100% mindset. You cannot do this unless your mind is in the right place. So mindset is a huge obstacle, but by practicing mindfulness, you can see what's standing in your way. Be honest with yourself.
Number two, minimize distraction. Well, crap, that one hits hard that when really hits hard, because I find myself more and more distracted. In fact, when I'm overwhelmed or I'm anxious, I actually seek the distraction. I use the distraction to kind of numb the pain and it never works. Ever. Distractions only keep you from staying on track and focusing on your goals. They divert your attention away from the task at hand, and that causes you to be less productive and motivated to get things done. My distraction, my phone, social media, like it, please tell me I'm not the only one. It's such a bad habit. And it's a time-suck I'm working on it because I realize how very distracted I am, how much of my time is wasted. And then I get so discouraged about myself. So if I'm real with myself, that little bit of relaxing while scrolling my phone is having the opposite effect. After spending that time, scrolling my phone, how do I feel? Well, I'm irritable, I'm depressed. I'm jealous, I'm anxious and I'm even more overwhelmed. So if I want to be a successful woman, if I want to keep showing up for myself, I've got to minimize distraction.
You have to minimize distraction. A successful woman shows up for herself in every area of her life. And she isn't afraid to admit when distractions are getting in the way. So while I'm working on it, minimize distraction.
Number three, have a solid morning routine. Okay? I just felt you roll your eyes. I did cause you're like, this is the summer. We don't have to have a morning routine because we had a strict morning routine when we were in school and we're on vacation now. Okay? First of all, you can't go on vacation for three months. Vacation is different, but in the summer you still need a solid morning routine. If we want to adopt one of those healthy lifestyle habits of successful women, the bottom line is that morning people get more stuff done, but there's a lot of good science here to a healthy lifestyle.
So recognize first that the first 20 minutes of your day sets the tone for the rest of the day. The first 20 minutes, I just talked about my phone and what a distraction that is. Meaning. If I spend the first 20 minutes of my day on my dang phone, guess how I feel. I don't feel very good. And that sets the tone for the rest of the day. However, if I can have a morning, a solid morning routine and that that's going to look different in the summer, okay? But still having a solid morning routine. And that is focused on having my quiet time, which for me is doing a Bible study or reading a devotional, prayer, journaling, a gratitude practice, maybe saying some affirmations. This makes all the difference in the world. The first 20 minutes of your day sets the tone for the rest of your day.
How are you starting the rest of your day? Now also, if you want to sleep good at night, you've got to have a successful morning. You are setting the stage for a successful night's sleep. Isn't that crazy because it's first thing in the morning. And really you've got a lot of stuff between now and then when you go to bed, but exposing yourself to natural light, first thing in the morning really helps those circadian rhythms. And that is setting the stage for asuccessful night sleep.
Speaking of number four, prioritize sleep. Why do we fight sleep? So give the, let me give the example of sweet little babies and animals. Like when their fault, when they're sleepy, they fall asleep, right? Okay. Now we're mamas, we're working. We are busy. We have a lot of demands on us. We can't just sleep whenever we want to during the day. Right? But why do we fight it? I think we are fighting sleep. We're not prioritizing sleep because we're so focused on being productive. But I want you to recognize how counter productive it is to stay up late, to get things done.
This has nothing to do with, okay, I'm a night owl or I'm a morning person. You need sleep bottom line. You want to be productive. The next day you got to get some good sleep at night. If you want to lose weight sister, yet, if you want to detox your body, you got to get sleep. This is the secret. And by the way, if you haven't heard me talk about sleep or poop, well, you must be new here. So welcome. I talk about these things a lot. And why do you think I keep talking about the same thing all the time, sleep poop, real food, these simple strategies, but we have a hard time doing these things. Why is that? It's the basics that I've struggled with and I know better, my friend, I know better. Here's what I know. If you want to feel better and make better choices and be more productive, you got to get some sleep. This is a secret. So the next day you've had, you have energy. You're clear headed and your body is working efficiently.
Number five, be intentional. We started off number one with being mindful that self-awareness being honest with yourself. Mindfulness leads to being intentional. You're going to have to be intentional about your quiet time in the morning. You're going to have to be intentional about self-care and listening to your body and giving your body what it needs. You're going to have to be intentional about your mental and emotional health and not ignoring things, not shutting things down like your friend here has had a tendency to do. You're going to have to be intentional about personal growth. You're going to have to be intentional about family time and putting distractions away and just focusing on your family. During those moments, you'll have to be intentional about making sure your soul is nourished.
When it comes to your health journey, you're going to have to be intentional about what you eat and what you drink. A successful woman. Doesn't just constantly let life happen to her. But she intentionally sets out to make things different. It starts by being mindful and then it moves to being intentional. When we know better, we do better. That's why I love that Maya Angelou quote.
Now let me recap those number one, practice mindfulness. Number two, minimize distraction. Number three, have a solid morning routine. Number four, prioritize, sleep. Number five, be intentional. These are some of the basics. Y'all I can do these things. You can do these things, but will you, or will you continue to make excuses and get in your own way? I'm going to tell you it is time to believe in yourself. You're worth it. And you made some care.
You can do this. I'm going to tell you, you can't do it all at one time. There's no way. So that word intention. I love that because I think it's even a little bit more, I don't know. I like the way it sounds better than goals. Goals can sound kind of lofty, but set small intentions, be mindful about eating. Okay. This week, I'm going to be mindful about what I'm putting in my mouth is most of this process food, and I'm just kind of mindlessly snacking. Or am I getting in some real whole foods set an intention about your quiet time. Now when you're setting an intention or setting a small goal, um, it has to be realistic, right? So, okay. I'm going to do my quiet time. Four days this week. You don't say I'm gonna do my quiet time. Know I need to do my quiet time seven days this week. Sure you do. However, is that realistic? Okay. I'm going to make it a top priority and make sure I get my quiet time. In at least three to four days. This week being intentional makes all the difference in the world. Setting those simple, realistic goals and telling yourself as yourself. I can do this one step at a time. One simple change at a time.
