You need a reason to use a happy poop emoji every single day. That's right. Every day you get my drift, right? The subject of elimination is an important one because when we aren't eliminating, we feel crappy. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But you know, it's true. We feel crappy. So this is a really big issue because I hear it all the time in my clients, women who are absolutely miserable because they either can't go to the bathroom or they're going to the bathroom way too much come to think of it. I've been talking about poop every single day for my entire career. Yeah, don't get jealous. Somebody's got to do it. I remember when I started off as a Dietician at Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, Mississippi, and part of what I needed to ask my patients was about their bathroom habits. I learned to real quick, you ask an elderly person about their bowel habits, and it's at least a 30 minute conversation, fast forward years down the road. And I'm talking poop on the daily, helping people poop. And this is how I win friends and influence people. I help them poop. Seriously. Once I had a client that I had helped, and we were at the same party, she came up, hugged my neck and whispered in my ear. Thank you so much. I'm pooping. It made me so happy. I also get text messages frequently with happy poop emojis. It's funny yet. It makes me so happy because this is a key area. When we feel like crap, when we're full of crap, we feel like crap. But let me get real in this podcast real fast. I've had bathroom issues most of my life, as in not going to the bathroom enough. Yeah. Constipation issues. Not fun going way back to when I was very young. Now, my dad was aware that I had some bathroom issues. I mean, I think everybody in my family was, and honestly dad wanted to help because his side of the family, this was a big issue. So, uh, dad wanted to help and he would, uh, he would give me a prune in a paper towel on my way out the door to the bus stop. You can imagine I would arrive at the bus stop and all my little buddies would look at that paper towel and look at what's in it. And they would say, Ooh, what's that? And I would mumble a reply. It's a prune. And they would laugh and laugh. And I would throw the prune into the bushes. Now I know my sweet daddy listens to my podcast. Dad, when did you think that prune was going to kick in? I mean, maybe that wasn't the best strategy. So this is a subject that is near and dear to my, to my heart because I have struggled with it for most of my life and I don't struggle anymore. So I love helping people poop. Today. we're looking at detoxification and as you heard a last week's podcast, I outlined why a toxic body cannot lose weight. Toxins are stored in our fat cells. So we're feeling better and losing weight is your goal. Then detox is a must. The body has organs that are specifically designed for detoxification. These are the liver, the kidneys, the digestive system, the skin and the lungs. And there's a pretty amazing detox vacation system housed in the body. Now I'm not going to get into all the specifics and all the science because Lord knows we don't have time for that. And it's too confusing anyway, but there's, there's something you need to know. This kind of fascinating. There's actually detox pathways. There's phase one and phase two detox pathways. So here's a good description that I'll recently learned. Phase one, detox pathway is like gathering all the trash in your house. You go from room to room and you empty the trash cans and you gather it all up. Phase two is when you take all of that trash, all of those trash bags out. So the garbage collectors can take it away. Now, instead of getting into all the complicated science of detoxification and pathways today, we're going to focus on the digestive system and the importance of elimination. And this part of the talk is rated P G yup. Pretty gross. I'm sorry. I amuse myself. I came up with that on my own and I'm kind of proud of myself, PG pretty gross. It is absolutely necessary to look at what your poo says about you. Yes, there is an ideal poop, a gold standard. Does your poop measure up? Let's talk about it. Let's look at color. First poop should be Brown. All shades of Brown, a poop that is white gray, red, black grain could indicate that there are some other issues going on. That there's some medical issues that need to be addressed. The texture should be smooth and fairly uniform the smell. Ooh, that stinks. No, it really shouldn't not have a smell! I know, isn't that shocking. Landing sink or swim. It should sink to the bottom of the toilet bowl. A poop that's floating can indicate some pretty significant problems. Consistency. This is going to sound really gross. Bear with me. It should be like a sausage smooth longer about 10 to 12 inches. The distance from your wrist to your elbow. If you're seeing round balls are really lumpy, poop, soft blobs, mushy stalls, and of course, liquid stalls. That's not good family. It should wipe clean and not leave a mess in the bowl. When you flush, when it comes to the transit time, you really need to be going every 24 hours at a minimum. You know, some experts say for every meal that comes in there should be something coming out. And it does make me think about my puppies in this situation. Now, after we feed the puppies, we've got a Bernedoodle and a golden doodle after we feed the puppies, um, of course, we're going to take them out to go to the bathroom. It just makes sense. And that's their habit, right? So it means something the same can be said for us. We'll talk about this more later, but you really do need a reason to use a happy poop emoji daily. The feeling after you go to the restroom should be satisfaction, not straining or failing. Like it's difficult, but satisfied too many people are singing that song. I can't get no satisfaction. I'm sorry. Sometimes I just think of songs gross, right? Can you believe I'm tackling this subject on a podcast? Let me tell you why 24 years of experience and working with others, and I know this poo problems make you miserable and it indicates that you are toxic. So you're not gonna be able to move forward, whether you're constipated and feel bloated and toxic, or you can't enjoy life because you're constantly looking for a restroom. As you just heard, there's a certain way that poop is supposed to look and smell. And if that's not happening, there are some issues that need to be addressed. I wish I could tell you that most people have that ideal gold standard of Poo. I have found that a vast majority of my clients deal with bathroom issues, constipation, which as you know, is difficulty going to the bathroom. By the way, when that poop sits there in the intestines, those toxins are re-absorbed back into the system when they should be excreted. Diarrhea - things are speeding through and it carries with it vital nutrients that you desperately need. It's rough on the system. And at that, it also affects your hydration status. Both of these really affect toxicity in the body, overall health and also quality of life. It makes me think of my client, Amber. She came to me with goals of weight loss that the top priority that was pressing was bathroom issues. And addressing those bathroom issues. Constipation was making her miserable and yes, it was affecting her quality of life. She had been to the doctor. Of course, they put her on a constipation medication. The problem that Amber is a teacher and she never knew when the urge to go was going to hit and she would find herself running to the restroom. So we tackled bathroom issues. First, we worked on restoring her gut health and establishing good bowel habits. And you know what? It worked....poop success real quick. My friend, if you're having big time, bathroom issues like Amber, and you feel like "I can't talk to anybody about this, I'm so embarrassed, but I know I need help". I have the help you need in your bathroom issues. By the way, just between us. Amber gave me permission to chat about her today. Book a virtual coaching session with me at inspireyourhealthyharmony.com. Look under the coaching tab. You don't have to be miserable anymore. Now let's talk some tips on how to effectively detox and make sure you're pooping good. Number one, look at gut health. Okay. What does that name, what does that mean? When I say good gut health, that means you've got 80% good healthy bacteria versus 20% bad organisms like fungus and yeast and bad bacteria. The problem in most people is that this ratio is completely reversed. They've got an over abundance of the bad organisms, the bad guys, and not enough of the good guys that good healthy bacteria. Think of it as your healthy soldiers, they're fighting for your good health. So if we want to talk about elimination first and foremost, we've got to look at gut health. Number two, drink water. We covered this last week on part one, but let me emphasize it again. Drinking water, flushes out those toxins. So we detoxify by peeing and pooping. Drinking water helps to flush all of that out. Remember, you're aiming for half of your body weight in ounces. Number three, establish good bowel habits. Going way back to my hospital days. I remember, uh, you know, discussing with nurses like good bowel habits. This is a funny way to put it right. It's a funny statement, good bowel habits. But what you're trying to do is get into some kind of like poop routine. Okay? So your body is in the habit of pooping daily sometimes at the same time for a lot of us that's in the morning. So you need to allow yourself plenty of time. A lot of people find that they go best, right after that morning cup of coffee better. There is something about that warmth that kind of helps to stimulate about moments. Um, and that is fantastic. So allow yourself plenty of time, try to get in the habit of going every single day. At the same time, these are good bowel habits. Number four, probiotics and prebiotics. So this is a hot topic and we're going to touch on it just briefly. Probiotics are healthy bacteria. They're the good guys fighting for your health. Think of them as little soldiers. So often the good guys get crowded out because there's an overabundance of the bad organism, the enemy soldiers, bad bacteria, fungus, yeast, et cetera. So it's absolutely crucial to establish your good healthy soldiers. Yeah. We can do this by taking a probiotic supplement and consuming probiotic, foods and beverages that are rich with alive, healthy organisms, a probiotic supplement should be high quality. It should have a wonderful diversity of different bacterial strains. I do have a couple of probiotic supplements that I know and trust. And if you need some guidance, just message me at inspire healthy harmony. It's a confusing world out there. The foods and beverages that contain healthy bacteria are sauerkraut, kombucha, Keefer, and kimchi. Also yogurt contains some healthy bacteria, but here's where we have a problem. Yogurt typically only has like one strain of bacteria and it can be loaded with sugar and artificial sweeteners and artificial flavors. So that's probiotics. The healthy bacteria let's talk prebiotic. Prebiotics are like fertilizer for good healthy bacteria. Think of it as feeding your good, healthy bacterial soldiers, so they're strong and they're ready to fight. Prebiotics are found in bananas, artichokes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, even oats. Quick side note here. If you have SIBO, which is small intestinal, bacterial overgrowth, sometimes probiotics can make that worse. You need a very specific strategy tailored for you by a physician who's taken the time to address what's really going on in your body. For some, your issues may be severe enough that you need to work with a GI doctor or preferably a holistic minded physician of functional medicine practitioner who will do a stool test and help you get to the root of the issue. So please keep that in mind. Number five, increase fiber. Fiber is also called roughage. It is that part of the plant, uh, that can't necessarily be broken down. So there's soluble and insoluble soluble fiber dissolves in water and GI fluids. Uh, some soluble rich fibers, uh, or soluble fibers. Uh, also feed that good gut bacteria in the intestines, Insoluble fiber, does it dissolve? It remains more or less intact as it moves through the GI tract. The best way to increase your fiber is to increase those fresh whole foods, the fresh foods and vegetables, nuts and grains and beans and seeds. Here's the main thing you need to know. Please do not increase fiber without increasing your fluid intake. I'm going to repeat that. Do not increase your fiber without increasing your water intake. You will not be happy. This is another area where you may need some personalized help. If so, I've got your back. Number six, add in magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral and plays an important role in muscle function, heart rhythm, blood pressure, immune system functioning, even blood sugar level. Here's the deal. Magnesium is super important for pooping because it promotes muscle relaxation to create a smooth flow. As the stool passes. It also appears that magnesium has a laxative type effect and draws water into the intestine. So the one you're looking for is magnesium citrate. I personally take a supplement called Biocleanse, which has been a game changer for me, absolute game changer. In addition to the probiotic that I take, it has changed everything for me. Number seven, and this might be one you haven't heard of yet. Castor oil packets. Castor oil is a legendary treatment that dates way back to ancient times. A castor oil pack is an external application of castor oil to the body. So you use a piece of wool or cotton flannel. You saturate that with the castor oil and you apply it to a specific area. In this case, we want to apply it to the rib cage, focusing more on the right side of the body, where the liver is. Remember that liver is absolutely key in detox vacation, and we leave it on there for about an hour. The health benefits of castor oil packs are significant, but most importantly, it plays a key role in keeping you regular and helping you eliminate. Now here's the thing I have not tried this yet, but I'm about to, with my history of poo problems, this info got my attention right away. So I ordered mine off Amazon. It came in today and I'm excited to try it. If you want to learn more about Castro oil and its benefits, check out marisol.com. That's drmarisol.com. And she's like one of the experts on this topic. That wraps up today's poop discussion. I hope you've learned a little more about what your poo says about you. I don't want you feeling crappy anymore. I'm sorry.
